Freight Elevators
For your warehouse, factory, shopping center, office building or other large-scale facility needs, freight elevators are typically larger and can carry more weight than a standard passenger elevator. With impressive load capacities of up to 25 tons, our hydraulic or traction driven (cable) multi-function freight elevators can handle just about anything.
As an independent elevator company, Virginia Elevator offers a wide variety of freight elevator brands and models. We custom fit each freight elevator to conform to your design, dimension and weight specifications. We can also design it with multiple doors for front, rear and/or side loading.
Class A : General Freight Loading
Class A Freight Elevators are used for manual or hand truck loading or unloading of general freight. The actual amount of a one-piece load being moved off or on to the freight elevator cannot exceed 1/4 of the stated capacity of the elevator system. If a hand truck is used, the weight of the hand truck must be included as part of the 1/4 loading restriction.
Class B : Motor Vehicle Loading
Class B Freight Elevators are intended solely for the transport of automobiles, trucks or other motor vehicles, up to the stated capacity of the elevator system.
Class C : Industrial Truck Loading
There are three types of Class C Freight Elevators designed to load or unload freight by using an industrial truck or forklift. All the freight elevators we carry meet or exceed national codes and safety requirements.
Class C-1
The combined weight of the forklift and the load cannot exceed the stated capacity of the elevator. The forklift can remain on the elevator during operation.
Class C-2
Loading of the platform at 150% of the stated capacity of the elevator allows for a single-piece load that equals the capacity of the elevator to be loaded with a forklift on to the platform of the elevator. The loading device must be removed prior to the operation of the elevator.
Class C-3
Most often designated to support single-piece loads equal to the capacity of the elevator, the combined weight of the load and industrial truck or forklift must not exceed the stated capacity of the elevator system.
