Virginia Elevator Company's custom home elevators provide a smooth and quiet ride, adding no distracting noises to your living environment. They are custom handcrafted by experienced American wood workers and built with “select or better” lumber using top grade materials in a wide range of models, styles and designs from our nation’s top elevator manufacturers. Interior finishes come in a wide variety of woods and metals in multiple styles and finishes that will compliment any home décor.

All of our staff are well versed about safety codes at all levels to ensure you have a safe product that will be code compliant.

Our elevators come equipped with an elevator control panel emergency stop switch, emergency alarm, telephone, hoist-way door locking devices and a gate safety switch. In the event of a power failure, our home elevators can also be equipped with an optional battery-controlled emergency descent feature so passengers won’t be stranded.

How long does it take to install a home elevator?

Installation can take up to 5 days.

Can I remove my stairs and install the elevator in their place?

NO - Regardless of the placement of the elevator, Uniform Building Codes requires a stairway. Special circumstances should be discussed with your local building official.

What if my power goes out? Will I be stranded?

No – If your home has an emergency generator that powers the elevator or you choose the optional battery decent system, the elevator can be moved to a lower floor and stop for you to exit.

How much weight can a home elevator hold?

Typically up to a maximum capacity of 1000 pounds, depending upon the model chosen.

How big is a home elevator?

The typical size for most manufacturers is 3'x 4' (12 square feet), however the latest elevator safety code will allow sizes up to a maximum of 15 sq. feet.

Can the elevator have an opening or stops on 2 sides?

Yes, we can provide both front and rear openings as well as adjacent openings. Please consult with our sales staff for more details.
